Dog Eat Dog

A co-worker down in NJ used to remark. "It's a dog eat dog day and I'm wearing Milk Bone underwear." Well here's a link to to a hilarious dog eat dog video. Good dog Sybil.

On another dog eat dog day note. Here's a pit bull that lost a fight with a porcupine though I suppose it could be an all animal remake of movie Hell Raiser. You remember the one that had that pinhead character in it. This brings to mind the age old question do porcupines really shoot (or throw) their quills ? Just a decade ago one would have to head the the public library (for those under 12 it's a place with books you can borrow for free for a week or two). Here is a link that provides the answer and more.

Hey here are some fun facts about the picture.

1. I know nothing about the dog.
2. I found the image online and was as amazed as most of you have been.
3. To quote a line from one of the original Inspector Clueseau movies "it's not my dog."

A friend who is a vet surgeon told me that Pit Bulls are dumb. I believe him. If it was a Collie or a Shepard or even just a mutt I might feel more pity.

Wow, that sucks. Is it just me or is everybody that posts here an illiterate moron? I am sure the owner didn't plan for that to happen. Lots of dogs run free all the time. And sometimes they try to eat porcupines.

OK the dog is a beast and has poor logic. So i think it should be kept under tight watch and probably in vet's cage for a while soo it'll heal and all.
Same thing goes for the owner.

You probably faked it. No dog would have hept fighting after its eyes were gouged out by quills.

That is cruelty to animals I hope whoever did that dies a horrible death!

:-/ Ya, i feel really bad for that dog... its a sad picture. But come on people! Why are you blaming the owner??
When I lived in Maryland near the woods, I'd always let my dog go out to play. They shouldnt need supervision once theyre trained. I wouldnt blame this on the owner, I'd blame it on the dog for not leaving the thing alone after the first, second, and hundreth needles.

At 6:57 PM, Anonymous said...

how can you stand looking at that

At 9:37 PM, Anonymous said...

I am sure it's the dog own fault
anyway enough about the dog

Hello my name is Aquanette I am a Dog Exoert *looksproud* how did you raise the poor thing? It all depends, did you LET it fight?

At 11:00 AM, . . . said...

Wow, you people are stupid. . . How many posts are there of everyone saying the dog's owner is a jerk? I think only one of you spoke any sense.

Anyway point is it's not the owners fault. Plenty of dogs have bad run-ins with porcupines, it happens all the time. This one happened to get it worse. Poor thing yeah, but don't blame the owner. Sure you could say that the owner should have been watching it, but you can't keep a dog in a leash or inside it's whole life. That's not the kind of creatures they are. I lived in town for a brief period of time and we had to keep my dog leashed in the yard or inside. He never got to run and you could tell he hated it. Dogs need time to do dog things.

And, Aquanette is it? I seriously doubt you're a dog expert. You're assuming the dog fought the porcupine just because it was raised poorly and wanted to fight just because it had been turned mean or enjoyed fighting? Did it occur to you at all that dogs are very protective animals? Their natural instinct is to keep intruding animals off their "pack's" (family, owner, what have you) territory. And if the porcupine hurt it, it would have seen it as all the more of a threat. I see more of a fiercely protective dog here than a dumb or mean one.

I feel sorry for the poor dog, but the people who used swear words and inappropriate subjects-well even THAT owner doesn't deserve it!!!!!!

most of tou ppl are pretty daft (im guessin from USA??) pitbulls are bred for aggression and are really dangerous when angry. there is no way to stop a pitbull and a porki fighting without killing one of them. would you put your hand in the way? or just ask them nicely??

At 6:03 PM, Anonymous said...

Pitbulls are bred to fight, but unless you train (or hurt them) they won't naturally attack everything. Not all pitbulls are stupid or mean. Humans are the same as animals; just we tend to think that we are so different because we are "smart". The dog probably hadn’t ever seen a porcupine and might have even been tied up when the porcupine came. It isn’t the owners fault, unless they did it purposefully. The dog should be treated at the vet immediately. Anyone who thinks this is funny is seriously mean. I was horrified when I saw this picture.

what happened to the dog who had a fight with the porcupine. poor guy. :(

At 12:12 AM, Anonymous said...

look the dog got in a fight with a porcupine. i am sure that it hurts but really that dog is an idiot. and it is not his owners fault the dog made the decision to fight that porcupine. but don't think i hate dogs i feel very bad for that dog but he should have ran off after he got stuck the first few times.

This happen often to country dogs. the weird thing is that it will happen over abd over again to the same dog. I heard that they can get addicted to fighting with pocupines and you have to put them down it that happens. That's farm life.

At 7:20 PM, Anonymous said...

getter done

At 3:45 PM, Lacey said...

Most of you people are idiots! What happened to the dog is most likely in no way the owners fault, obviously most of you don't know this, but alot of dogs, "farm dogs" are always outside, and get into lots of trouble, i guarantee any dog would rather be a free dog than to be inside or on a chain all the time, but reguardless, just because the dog got attacked by a porcupine doesn't mean the dog is dumb, most likely the dog had never seen one before, and when he saw it waddling across the yard, I'm pretty being he's a dog he wasn't aware that it had sharp quills, and he might have only been wanting to play. I have a pitbull, and yes sadly some of them are trained to fight, but mine WAS NOT, and let me tell you, he is the biggest baby I have ever seen, I have a daschund that he is scared of, the breed is a very loyal and smart, yes smart breed, they can be stubborn, and will protect their family if threatened, but I think most people would find that a good thing, I know I do considering I'm a female that lives alone. Well, I wasn't planning on typing so much, but I just couldn't believe the stupidity of some of you people, and I got a little carried away, so unless you actually know what you are talking about don't type something like you do.

That dog don't look so funny!Maybe because it is in horrible pain!!

At 7:37 PM, canadiankickass said...

What's really funny is that you people actually believe that is a real picture!!! LOL. It is obviously a fake photoshopped picture, you can tell because, A) the projectory of the quills would not allow for the surface coverage on the dogs face and B)Just look, no shadows, etc, etc., obvious signs!

what,s his name hope its not spike

I'm a pitbull owner. It is true that they are stupider than most other dogs (at least with mine) but are very warm hearted if not raised to be violent. That being said, they WILL approach/attack/try to play with just about anything, especially if it's smaller than themselves (my min-pin gets no relief from his larger pitbull housemate). Owners should take care to train their pitbulls well, with special emphasis on teaching restraint around smaller creatures (this is why you somtimes hear about babies being mauled by pitbulls, such a thing happened in Detroit no earlier than summer 2005).

What CanadianKickass fails to realize is that digital cameral flashes flood out shadows, and also the shading of quills near the legs matches that of the lighting in that region-- I don't think it's obvious that this is a fake photo, and would be surprised if that were the case, actually.
